How to Wash a Synthetic Wig or Topper
How do you wash a synthetic hair wig or topper?
If you're new to synthetic wigs but aren't sure how to handle them, this article will be really helpful.
One of the most common causes of a wig's short lifespan is poor maintenance.
Let's look at all the steps for properly washing a synthetic wig, whether heat-resistant or classic. You can follow all of these steps, or you can choose to use just the essential products: shampoo, conditioner, and/or detangler.
1. Take a basin or put the stopper on the sink and fill the container with water at room temperature.
2 Put a little shampoo (figure A) in the bowl. You won't need much!
3. Comb the synthetic wig with a wide-toothed comb (figure B), slowly untangling all the knots
4. Immerse the wig in the self-cleaning solution, i.e. in the water with the shampoo, and leave it to soak for 10 minutes without rubbing or combing.
5. Remove the wig from the water and rinse well.
6. Prepare another bowl of water at room temperature with a little conditioner (figure C)
7. Submerge the wig and leave to soak for another 10 minutes
8. Remove the wig from the water and pat dry with a towel, do not rinse out the conditioner.
9. At this point you can apply the conditioner (figure D) and leave it to dry naturally on an open head.
10. Once it is dry, you can comb the wig with a wide-toothed comb and decide whether to use Gisela Mayer wig polish (figure E) or Ellen Wille detangler (figure F).
One last piece of advice.
Heat-resistant wigs and toppers are particularly delicate because, while they respond well to heat, this very characteristic makes them prone to tangles and wear. For this type of fiber and for long synthetic hair, it's a good idea to use Ellen Wille's detangler both morning and evening, before placing the wig back on the head.
